Fall 2015

ED 800  Concepts of Educational Inquiry

Instructor: Dr. Steve Weiland

Fall 2015

This course was one of the foundational courses that I took during my master's program. The course focused on familiarizing students with the essential domains of educational inquiry: philosophical, psychological, biological, historical, biographical, and ethnographical. It addressed problems of theory and practice of teaching and learning, administration, and leadership. It was a self-paced course with six essays to write. Vivian Paley's method of inquiry inspired me about how important it is for the teacher to reflect on her daily experiences with the students.

Spring 2016

This course allowed me to explore a wide variety of technology tools that can be incorporated into the teaching of Math. The course introduced methods to use when evaluating a mathematical technology. I developed a website with useful math tools for k-2 teachers, I evaluated each tool and focused on unique affordances and constrains. Technology is a great tool that teachers can use to differentiate instruction in the classroom.

CEP 818  Creativity in Teaching & Learning

Instructors: Dr. Carmen Richardson - Cui Cheng

This course helped me realized that creativity is a trait that can be learned and developed and that each one can be creative in his own way. I created a website to demonstrate how to incorporate creativity in the teaching of subject matters in the kindergarten department. One important thing I learned from this course it that to be creative, you should not be fear to try new things.

Spring 2017

TE 846 Accommodating Different Literacy Learners

Instructor: Dr. Dongbo Zhang

This course highlights the importance of literacy skills in the students' academic success, and how literacy instruction should be implemented across content areas. This course helped me in setting new literacy teaching methods for English Language Learners and struggling students. I had the opportunity to work with two young students having different literacy needs. I was able to do a pre-assessment, set a plan for improvement, and do a post-assessment. I set differentiated lesson plans and used different artifacts during my lessons.

Fall

2017

This course focused on improving reading and writing skills for students from a wide variety of language background, especially English Language Learners (ELL). Working with ELL students and knowing how descriptive feedback to students' writing play an important role in improving their writing skills, I decided to design a one-hour workshop for teachers to guide them on how to respond to students' writings.

CEP 832 Educating Students with Challenging Behaviors

Instructors: Dr. Vasiliki Mousouli - Dr. Evelyn Oka

This course provided plenty of evidence-based classroom interventions for students with challenging and disruptive behaviors. Throughout the course, I had the opportunity to observe a passive-aggressive students during different times, I collected data and set a behavioral strategy plan to work on improving this behavior. I did more observation to check if the plan was effective and that he responded to the intervention.

CEP 842 Content Area for Students with Mild Disabilities

Instructors: Dr. Cindy Okolo - Dr. Rachel Kopke

It can be very tough for subject teachers to teach students with mild disabilities. This course provided for me a guide on how to design and differentiate instructions in the content-area subjects such as math, science, social studies, etc. In this course, I designed an intervention guide for math and science teachers to help students with mild disabilities. I specified the tasks that they were supposed to do, the challenges they face, and the strategies to use for improvement.

EAD 860 Concept of Learning Society

Instructor: Dr. Steven Weiland

People have different views about the learning society, some see learning society as a place for economic development and technological advancement. Others see a more important emphasis on issues of social justice, equity, and access to education. This was a self-paced course and we were required to write six essays about how learning can take place in different settings: away, in the work field, self-learning, and digital learning.

Fall

2018

This course was one of the most useful courses that I took, it provided me with abundant number of instruction strategies to analyze the assessment reading data of elementary students, set goals for instructions, and suggest instruction strategies for these goals. In addition, this course provided an opportunity for a book club experience with peers. We worked on the book "All About Words" which highlights the importance of developing vocabulary for young kids, and provided strategies to implement.

ED 870 Capstone Portfolio

Instructors: Dr. Mathew Koehler - Aric Gaunt

This was my final course! In this course, I had the opportunity to reflect upon my time as a master student at Michigan State University. I developed a digital portfolio that compiled my learning and the course work from the master's program. I had the opportunity to cooperate with other educators in the program and we provided weekly feedback to ensure that all educators create the best portfolio possible.
