The Montessori Department
Welcome to our Montessori Department!
Children here feel safe, have fun, and enjoy learning!
We have four pre-k, and five kindergarten classrooms. We follow the Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori course of study is an integrated thematic approach that ties the separate disciplines of the curriculum together. The Montessori classroom is divided into 5 subject areas (language -math - sensorial - cultural, and practical life)
Browse through the gallery of images below to get a brief idea of the learning areas.
Language Area
The Montessori Language materials include: sandpaper letters, making CVC words using moveable alphabets, reading and writing CVC words, blends, and diagraphs.
Math Area
The Montessori Math materials include numbers through ten, the decimal system, linear and skip counting, addition, subtraction, and fractions.
Sensorial Area
The Montessori Sensorial materials include a set of wooden materials designed by Maria Montessori in order to train and refine the child's senses.
Cultural Area
The Montessori Culture materials include geography, history, botany, zoology, music, and art. Kids love these materials and they enjoy every lesson they learn.
Practical Life Area
The Montessori Practical Life materials include activities that fascinate young children, such as mopping the floor, cleaning windows, folding, pouring, etc.
The purpose of these materials is to develop gross and fine motor skills, to learn how to care for oneself and the environment, and to develop concentration.
Science Experiments
Science experiments are part of our weekly themes. The experiments usually start with a problem or a question, kids make a hypothesis, and then perform the experiment to test the hypothesis.
